3 Student Conference Preparation Guide

Goals

  • Establish expectations about what occurs during a required office hours conversation meeting
  • Encourage students to identify and articulate their own goals and feedback needs before they meet with their instructor
  • Invite students to create a list of specific questions to focus on during the conference, something that both participants can refer to during the meeting

Please respond to the following questions, export your activity document file, and upload your file to Canvas by 8 a.m. on the morning of our scheduled office hours meeting.

Please arrive to our student conference meeting with your responses and a copy of your essay's first draft on hand in either electronic or hard-copy format. 

Draft Strengths

What is one thing that you see as a strength in your current draft? (What do you like the best? What did you put the most effort into as you began writing your essay?)

Conference Goals

Please list two primary development areas you feel would be most important to focus on during our conference conversation.

Examples:

Removing clutter words in body paragraph 3

Working on synthesis versus paraphrase in body paragraph 4

Clarifying my thesis statement

Developing my significance statement

Creating an engaging introductory paragraph
